The PATPA has notably boosted U.S. exports and as of 2024, the United States holds a significant trade surplus with Panama, particularly in the agricultural sector, with total two-way trade valued at approximately $11.08 billion.

Panama’s economic growth has been among the highest in Latin America in recent years, often surpassing larger economies as a major economic powerhouse. Panama’s GDP per capita, which is approximately 80% service sector, is the highest in the region, reflecting its high productivity, significant foreign investment and mutually beneficial economic ties with the U.S. The country’s strategic location and the operation of the Panama Canal are the primary drivers of its prosperity.
