Military Installations Face Multiple Threats - From Mission or Funding Cuts to Incompatible Development

As established in section 288.980(1)(a), Florida Statutes, the State of Florida provides the necessary means to assist communities with military installations in supporting and sustaining those facilities.

Further, it is the state’s intent to encourage communities to initiate a coordinated program of response and plan of action in advance of future actions of the federal government relating to realignments and closures. Recognizing that the state needs to coordinate all efforts that can support military installations, it is critical that communities also develop and implement strategies to preserve and protect their military installations.

Throughout the state, the Legislature declared that providing such assistance to support the defense-related initiatives is a public purpose for which state funds may be used. To that end the Legislature created the Florida Defense Support Task Force, Florida Defense Alliance, and multiple military and defense related grants.

Below are several resources FloridaCommerce uses to protect and enhance the communities surrounding military installations, which in turn, makes the base a better value to the military.
